To coincide with the V&A’s Fabric of India exhibition, cult Indian concept store Bombay Electric has opened its first international residency at luxury London department store Selfridges.

Known for discovering and celebrating original talent in Indian fashion, Bombay Electric’s Selfridges pop-up will feature vibrant ready-to-wear pieces by designers including Manish Arora, Little Shiplap and Gaurav Gupta, alongside accessories and unique collectibles from all over India.

Five top British designers have also collaborated with the brand to hail its arrival in the UK. Mary Katrantzou, Mawi, Nicholas Kirkwood, Peter Pilotto and Roksanda have created limited-edition saris, available to purchase in the department store as well as at Bombay Electric’s Mumbai shop. All profits from the sale of the saris will go to Elephant Family, a charity working to protect endangered Asian elephants.

“Bombay Electric is a personal edit of the energy, colour and incredible design explosion of the new India,” explained London-born Priya Kishore, founder and creative director of the brand. “It is a dream to bring the underground aesthetic of Mumbai to my home city, London, thanks to Selfridges’ commitment to emerging global fashion.”

The Bombay Electric pop-up opens on 5 October in the first floor atrium of Selfridges on Oxford Street. The V&A exhibition The Fabric of India runs until 10 January 2016, as part of the V&A India Festival 2015.
